7.9 Cubic Metres presents a micro-cosmic parallel to the museum/gallery as an archival repository. It may be considered a relic or document of the cultural activity that took place ephemerally within its body at the end of the 12 month project. None of the works, however, can actually belong to its ‘collection’, so to speak.
What is the nature of the archive and when is a work of art synonymous with the document?
Artists featured in this closing segment explore the anthropological nature of the archive and processes of documentation, collection and conservation. Works probe into the human impetus to establish systems or ways of storing and organizing objects, experiences, ideas, and cultural material.
