Works in the 3rd quarter reflect on the role and image of the artist and his production processes in relation to image, spectacle and audienceship.

The conception of ideas and art are no longer born within the artist’s studio alone, but result from a series of interactions with his or her society. As an artist’s subjectivity comes under scrutiny, questions on the authenticity of the artist and the image arise.

While some artists embrace the use of celebrity or biography as strategies to explore authorial originality, others choose anonymity, renouncing sole-authorship or activating participatory modes of art making which implicate an audience’s responsibility for a work’s affect and effect.

Beyond the fetishized design or aesthetic surface, what processes and ethos does an artist deploy in designing a self-image or deconstructing one for, or regardless of audiences?
